fear of elevation

he stood there, smiling out of fear

and then the doors snapped shut

silencing him forever

steel panels smirked back at me

i shut my eyes

i always got sick to my stomach

we started our descent

slowly

then faster

and faster

my frantic heart kept time

free-falling

plummeting to shaft’s bottom

i never found out if i died
